What is Depression?

altDepression can affect us all from time to time, it can be lasting and enduring  depending on our own unique circumstances and thresholds to withstand outward and inward thoughts and feelings. We all perceive the effects of depression differently, whilst some seem to get over it in a few days, for some it can be very overwhelming.  Depression is not trivial matter and is genuine health condition, it is a real illness with real symptoms, and it’s not a sign of weakness or something you can ‘snap out of’ by ‘pulling yourself together’. Feeling sad or fed up is a normal reaction to experiences that are upsetting, stressful or difficult; those feelings will usually pass, but if you are affected by depression, you are not ‘just’ sad or upset. You have an illness which means that intense feeling of persistent sadness, helplessness and hopelessness are accompanied by physical effects such as sleeplessness, a loss of energy, or physical aches and pains. Sometimes people may not realise how depressed they are, especially if they have been feeling the same for a long time, if they have been trying to cope with their depression by keeping themselves busy, or if their depressive symptoms are more physical than emotional.

How can hypnotherapy and NLP help with Depression?

Depression drains your energy, hope, and drive, making it difficult to do what you need to feel better.  Over time the effects of depression have an effect on not just your mental state but physical state.  You are in a constant state of “fight or flight response”  As your body tries to protect you it releases hormones into your body for your survival. The fight or flight response is very useful to us if we come face to face with a  wild animal, but by being in this constant state,  the increased released hormones cause all sorts of  physical, behavioural and emotional problems.  Generally you can’t rectify this heightened release of hormone yourself, and you can’t overcome depression through sheer willpower. The only way to relieve your depression, even if it severe and stubbornly persistent,  is to start taking small steps to gain control of your emotions. Feeling better takes time, there is no silver bullet but holistic therapies work hand in hand with traditional medical therapies to help you back to wellness.

Depression puts a negative spin on everything, including the way you see yourself, the situations you encounter, and your expectations for the future. By using advanced therapeutic methods, such as Hypnotherapy, NLP, EMDT, EFT, Emotional Resolution, Emotional Intelligence and Cognitive psychology, here at Affronte we can be flexible in our practise to help you to replace negative thoughts with more balanced thoughts. Inevitably when you are feeling low you tend to focus on the negatives, this keeps you trapped in a veil of unhappiness. A bit like a self fulfilling prophecy, if you tell yourself often enough that things never work out for you or you feel awful, well you are right! Alternatively, once you can see the wood for the trees, you can start to focus on what you really do want from your life and lift the veil of sadness. The fact is you have been doing the same old thing and get the same old results, so now its time for a change, let us look at your situation with a fresh new pair of eyes and come up with a solution to put you back in the driving seat. All you want is to be happy again, to enjoy what you used to, and to have the life you deserve.

Call us today to discuss your way forward, we are here to help you every step of the way. Book your Free no obligation Consultation today, or send us an e-mail, we will respond.
