Mindfuness Stress Based Reduction
Blog Image

I recently took an 8 week course on Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, being a very busy person, finding something to do in every waking moment I found it most difficult to sit down and do nothing and when I did sit down I found myself drifting off to sleep which is not the art of meditation. I continued with the guidance of Suryacitta and persevered with my intrusive thoughts and learning how not to avoid them but to just simply acknowledge them and then let them go whilst pulling myself back to meditation.

What was most interesting is seeing the reactions of other pupils over the 8 week course, I could see actual physical changes, one lady appeared so much younger, stress lines reduced, and I saw pride in how some of the students held themselves and looked. Over the weeks I finally got what it was all about, awareness, acceptance and being in the reality we are in right now. .Students shared thoughts as to how they now thought they dealt with upsets differently and I could relate with that. It did not happen over night but incremental changes take place day by day, not rising up to challenge or argue but accepting of others points of view, there is a difference between being a pushover, I realize this now. My job means I do have to question to discover underling core beliefs that can stop energy flows and keep us from achieving what we want to, but there is a way to question and not challenge.

During meditation you start to become aware that being unaware is unhappiness, knowing that you are not going to run away from anything and that there is no need to change but to accept you, learn about you and start to know and love yourself. Feeling were in your body your thoughts take you to and acknowledge them for what they are, they are not you but merely a part of you.

Practicing body awareness to me was and still is the most powerful mindfulness meditation, allowing me to forgive, and to stop beating myself up. I found the emotional healing that came with body awareness practice allowed me to become comfortable with anything that came into my thoughts during the meditation and during the following period until finally I felt at peace with me. I do have my odd days, I'm only human! I continue my practice daily and I am so looking forward to taking teacher training so I may help others experience what I have, its nothing at all to do with change but acceptance and for me gratitude. Two simple things that bring you real happiness.
